I am sick to my stomach.
I can't believe it is over.
Today was the last day.
Friday is graduation.
Lord, please let it be a dream.
Let me wake up and find her to be a darling 6 month old baby girl.
That was such a fun age.
When did she become this blonde hair blue eyed lanky girl?
I don't think I can survive next year.
I'm going to miss her all day every day.
What if she cries?
What if I cry?
What if she doesn't know anyone in her class?
What if there are mean girls?
What if she gets lost in the halls?
What if??????

some stuff and a couple of things

You may or may not have heard, the economy is less than fantastic at the moment. I work for my dad who owns a company in the commercial construction field. The state of the economy has started to trickle down to us, but not because there isn't work out there to get! Despite what you may have heard, new construction is happening! People are building shopping centers, schools, hospitals, churches, the list goes on. What is hurting us is our competitors. We are bidding against people that are bidding jobs at cost or below! They do this, then plan on making up the difference (and more) in back charges and over-pricing change orders. And that's just not how we roll. So, dad has been bidding anything and everything under the sun and I have been helping him. Every spare minute has either been taking off a job, catching up on accounting work that I am behind on from taking off all these jobs, or soaking up some lovin' from my girly girl and my two boys. It hasn't left much room for blogging. So, I will try to catch you up.

The Prince is an eater! Eating has been a struggle with the Princess from day 1. The Prince, on the other hand, loves to eat...gets that from his mommy. He has loved every thing I have put in his mouth. It is so fun to watch him eat like a messy little piggy.

The Princess has been a great sleeper from the start. She slept all night at 6 weeks and has been ever since. The Prince, however, still gets up 2 or more times a night! He is wearing me out! He just gets up to eat, then goes right back to sleep. Then, sometimes I got right back to sleep and sometimes I lay there for a while. I need some sleep! Any suggestions?

My thyroid problems are still going on. I went to the dr last week and he said now my thyroid has reversed and is under active. I have to be on thyroid replacement for at least a year. He said it may go away on its own, or it may develop into a lifelong problem. I am hoping and praying it goes away. I can't stand taking a pill everyday, but I am.

Have you watched The Bachelor yet? If not, go now!

I can't believe it! What ON EARTH is he thinking? What a jerk!

a letter

Dear A,

I have always been so proud of myself because I have never needed caffeine. I hardly ever drink it, and have never wanted to. I especially didn't want to depend on it to start my day. But, as you know, these past few months have been more than a little tough on me. Besides just lack of sleep from {The Prince} still getting up during the night, this thyroid problem has been kicking my butt.

When you gave me that little canister of chai tea, it was like it gave me permission to drink it in the mornings to help me get a jump start. And I have been drinking it. Every morning. And, you know what? I can tell a HUGE difference in how my entire day goes just by drinking one little cup in the morning! And, you know what else? It's ok!

I know this is going to sound silly, but I think God used you to give that to me because I would have never gone to buy it for myself (and you probably knew me well enough to know that). I am sure you never imagined a little canister of tea to have quite the philosophical effect, but it is exactly what I needed to admit to myself that it is ok not to be perfect.

So, thanks for being the kind of friend to me that doesn't just listen, but does something to help! I hope I can be that aware of what my friends are going through so that I can reciprocate somehow one day.

Oh, and where did you get that because I am going to need some more! :)

Love,

the long awaited tea party recap

Saturday, February 7, I woke up right on time (a miracle these days). I had tons to do, but it was all planned out and it was going to be the most perfect most darling tea party anyone had ever seen.

That is, until, I heard the cough. Next came the sneezing. It was The Prince from his bassinet. I went over to check on him. Burning up. Poor baby. Great, the party. The hubby was already gone. He went fishing with a buddy, totally approved by me and The Princess. The tea party was no place for a boy. Except The Prince, of course. "There would be plenty of mommy's to pass The Prince around", we had said. Until now. It was still going to be ok. We would give The Prince some Tylenol and hope he would sleep through it.

I kept getting ready, then went to wake up The Princess, still right on time. As soon as she woke up I could see it in her eyes, hear it in her voice. She had the same thing. And she was burning up too. Another slight kink in the plan. It was too late to cancel the party.

So, we forged on. I dropped the kiddos off with my sister. Went to the drugstore and begged for some safe medicine for my little guest of honor. An hour after I had awaken her, The Princess had all the tools to feel as good as possible on her big day. ("Her real birthday" according to her.) And I was back on the road on my way to pick up the balloons, the cake, and decorate for the party. An hour behind.

I now believe the reason me and several of my close friends all had babies within 3 months of each other was so they would be at The Princess' 5th birthday tea party to help (do everything for me) with it. They are such a blessing.

We played 2 games. The first was racing to make each girl fancy. They divided up into two teams, picked the first girl to make fancy, and went to town putting tons of necklaces, rings, a fan, and the finishing touch...a huge blinking diamond ring. Then the next girl's turn, and the next, and so on... They had so much fun.

The second game was a total bust. I had this Fancy Nancy book. I gave them a fancy word and they were supposed to tell me what it meant. It would have worked better if I would have been able to get all the girls to sit down at once. Hyper, anyone?

After that was hors'dourves, cake, and, of course, tea (white grape juice). We used real glassware and held our pinkies up when we drank our tea. The girls were adorable.

Last came the presents. The Princess and I had every girl (15 in all) within 12 inches of us all trying to see what The Princess was opening next. Thankfully, one of my dear sweet friends corralled them all and made them sit in front of us like little ladies. Claustrophobic much!

It was a fantastic birthday. The Princess ignored how bad she felt for the party, then totally crashed as soon as we got home. The Prince was held by either my sister, mom, or cousin the entire time and was ok. Sunday, the hubby and I got it. It was a grand time with much tissue used. Everyone is all better now, except The Prince is hanging on to a cough.

In all the craziness, I didn't take very many pictures. Again come the friends! The Princess' birthday pictures are scattered around on a few different cameras. As soon as I get them all I will most definitely share! You won't want to miss them!

It was the most perfect most darling tea party anyone had ever seen.

some lessons

This week, I learned...

  1. It is possible to pull off an oh-so fabulous tea party for your 5 year old despite waking up to not one, but two sick kids that morning. But not without A LOT of help from your very good friends (thank goodness we all have kids the same age that like to party together).
  2. Your little girl's fiveness will slap you right in the face despite all your efforts of staying as busy as possible the entire week to forget about it. (When did this happen? Wasn't she just 2?)
  3. She will not stop wishing her life away until she has a little girl who is growing up way too fast. Proof: The day after turning five she starts a sentence with, "Mom, when I am 6 I am going to...." That, after a year of hearing, "Mom, when I turn 5 I am going to..."
  4. In all your efforts to teach your children to share, they will not so kindly share their sickness with you (and the hubby). Nothing like a little family togetherness on the couch all sniffling and sneezing!
  5. Having a good sleeper but not so good eater is preferable to having a great eater but not great at all sleeper. It is their problem if they are hungry! I need some sleep!
  6. I love them both more than I ever thought possible just the way they are.

Tea Party recap and pics to come just as soon as I dig out of this mountain of Kleenex!

Happy Birthday Baby (I know, you are not a baby, but you're MY baby)!

Did I mention this was a busy week? Um yeah, I am a little late for the Princess' birthday post. This morning I was feeling like an awful mother for not posting on her birthday, but then I realized...I have been so very much busy making her day (week really) the most fantastic birthday week ever that I haven't had a chance to sit down and post about her birthday. So, really, I have just been a bad blogger. And I will take being a bad blogger over a bad mommy any day. So, Princess in the future, when you read your 5th Birthday post and wonder, why on earth was my mom 2 whole days late with this???? Well, I was busy having fun with you, silly girl. (I love you)

So, let's just stroll back in time to a few February 4th's of the past...

Birthday Number 1

Could you not just eat that baby girl up?

The terrible two's...actually they were pretty great.

JoJo was even there!

Number 3...otherwise knows as "The year of the camera shyness"

Her first "ipod". We can't find it anywhere. She uses my real one now.

The big 4

The gymnastics party. The funnest party so far. She still talks about it.

Still camera shy (but not as bad) and, yes, still Hello Kitty.
5? Already?

This was first thing Wednesday morning...can you tell? Pictures of tomorrow's tea party coming soon...
